MODULES
A programme to designed to explore beyond subject knowledge
The programme develops essential scientific literacy through the study of biology, chemistry, and anatomy and physiology, enabling students to understand living systems from a cellular to a whole-body perspective. Quantitative awareness is strengthened through introductory statistics, supporting data interpretation and analytical thinking in scientific contexts.
Critical thinking and problem-solving are embedded throughout the curriculum, encouraging students to evaluate information, form evidence-based conclusions, and communicate ideas effectively. Foundational IT skills further support academic study and future progression in biomedical and life science disciplines.
By the end of the programme, students will have established a solid academic base and transferable skills that support progression into biomedical science courses in Singapore, higher diplomas, degree programmes, or related pathways in the life sciences and healthcare sectors.
Biology
This module aims to provide a foundational understanding of essential biological molecules, cell structures, and genetic mechanisms. Students will explore how genes function and contribute to inheritance, variation, and the evolution of species. The course also highlights the significance of biodiversity and its role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
Chemistry
This module aims to develop a solid understanding of fundamental chemical principles, language, and techniques. Students will learn to analyse molecular structures, interpret spectroscopic data, and explain chemical reactivity using core theoretical and practical knowledge. Emphasis is also placed on data analysis, scientific numeracy, and effective communication using digital tools and chemical software.
Anatomy and Physiology
This module aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the structure and function of major human organ systems and their regulation by the nervous and endocrine systems. Learners will explore the use of physiological equipment, analyze the impact of common disorders, and interpret data using appropriate scientific formats. Additionally, students will develop effective communication skills through written reports and video presentations on topics in human anatomy and physiology.
Introduction to Statistics
This course introduces the basic concept of quantitative approaches to decision making. Students will be able to use the basic concepts and theory to develop mathematical and logical arguments. Students will use the basic concepts and theory to make judgements and to evaluate different approaches to solving problems.
Critical Thinking
The aim of this module is a unique integration of study and critical-thinking skills to help students succeed study and critical thinking skills in higher education. Furthermore, this module emphasizes the different types of thinking necessary in courses across the curriculum and helps students expand their critical-thinking skills into decision making, problem solving, creative thinking, and scientific thinking. It also provides suggestions for adapting these skills to courses in the Technology, Business and law, accounting and finance, hospitality, and tourism courses.
Introduction to IT
This course introduces students to the basic concepts and developments in information technology fundamentals. Learners will gain hands-on coding skills for practical business applications. No prior programming knowledge is required and serves as the first step in your data analytics, data science, and any business applications learning journey. This module will also teach you how to gain vital insights by evaluating data.
