About This Programme
The Higher Diploma in Business Studies at LSBF Singapore offers a comprehensive foundation in business management, organisational strategy, and operational processes. Principles of Management
The aim of this module is to provide students with an introduction to the principles and practices of management. Students will learn how to examine the nature of managerial work including strategy, operations and project management, control, ethics, structures and culture, organisational power, groups and teams, individual performance and stress, social responsibility and change management.
Statistics & Quantitative Methods for Business
This module introduces the basic concept of statistical and quantitative approaches to decision making. It introduces students to basic concepts of and methods of qualitative methods used by Management. Enables students to understand how to collate and present data, apply and range of statistical and operations research techniques.
Principles of Accounting
This module introduces students to the foundation and understanding of the principles and concepts of Accounting. Students will be exposed to the application of these accounting concepts in the preparation of financial statements for use by individuals, business, non-profit organisations and government institutions. Students will also be developing expertise in using these accounting principles and concepts in their analytical approach to financial problem-solving.
Principles of Economics
The module is an introduction to basic economic principles and concepts and how they apply to the business environment. It introduces students to the global economy and reviews both the national and the global market. It establishes the framework for future courses by providing students with an overview of fundamental micro and macroeconomic concepts.
International Business Management
This module promotes an integrative understanding of international business issues, particularly in relation to how new businesses are established. Students will develop a critical understanding of major trends and issues in international business, evaluate how global firms analyse their business environment and develop an understanding of multi-disciplinary management.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Data Analytics for Business Decision
This module integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Data Analytics to equip learners with cutting-edge skills for extracting insights from complex data. Students will explore predictive modelling, automated data workflows, and AI-powered visualization while mastering time series forecasting, text mining (NLP), and image analytics (Computer Vision). Hands-on labs using Python, AutoML, and deep learning frameworks will prepare them to deploy scalable AI-driven analytics solutions in real-world business and research scenarios.
Principles of Marketing
This module introduces learners to the foundational concepts of marketing, equipping them with the skills to analyse, plan, and implement marketing strategies in real-world business contexts. Students will explore the marketing mix, target market selection, marketing research, and communications strategies, applying theoretical knowledge to practical case studies. By the end of the course, learners will be able to critically evaluate marketing scenarios and develop data-driven recommendations.
Business English & Communication Skills
This module is designed to develop your oral and written communication skills. Students learn to express clearly by using professional business terminology and create effective presentations. The course also explores the complexities of communication within teams and in multicultural settings, as well as current and future trends in business communication and gain essential academic skills, including proper referencing and how to avoid plagiarism, to prepare them for a variety of professional business contexts.
Business Ethics
This module introduces key concepts and theories in the field of Business Ethics, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of ethical practices in business. It explores the role of ethics in corporate governance, decision-making, and social responsibility. Students will gain insight into how ethical standards vary across cultures and industries, and how businesses can navigate moral dilemmas in a globalised world. Emphasis is placed on ethical leadership, sustainability, stakeholder theory, and compliance.
Management Practice
This module provides students with a practical and analytical understanding of operations and management practices within modern organisations. It introduces the principles and techniques of operations management, forecasting, quality assurance, inventory control, and supply chain strategy. Students will explore how to manage operational processes and people efficiently in environments of rapid change. Case-based learning is used to relate theory to business practice, and students will examine how operations contribute to strategic business outcomes and customer satisfaction.
Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship
This module introduces students to the core principles and practices of entrepreneurship, blending theoretical frameworks with real-world entrepreneurial applications. It equips learners with the tools to evaluate venture opportunities, understand the entrepreneurial process, develop viable business ideas, and assess personal fit within entrepreneurial careers. Students will also engage in practical activities such as pitching business concepts and reflecting on entrepreneurial success factors.
Innovation in Competitive Environment
This module explores how organisations use innovation to gain and sustain competitive advantage in dynamic markets. It introduces students to the frameworks and strategies that underpin innovation management, including technology adoption, disruptive innovation, and open innovation. The module examines how innovation is embedded in organisational culture and how leaders can manage the innovation process effectively. Organisational Analysis and Performance
This module introduces the fundamental concepts and debates within the field of organisational behaviour and theory. It examines organisational performance from multiple levels: individual, group and structural. Students will explore how behaviours, motivations, leadership styles and structures influence an organisation’s ability to perform and adapt. The course includes real-world examples and case studies that promote critical thinking and practical analysis of organisational dynamics and their implications for performance and growth.
Managing Equality and Diversity
This module explores the principles, challenges, and practical implementation of equality and diversity management in modern organisations. It provides a critical overview of discrimination, unconscious bias, and structural inequalities in the workplace. The course addresses the legal framework in relation to protected characteristics and human rights, and introduces strategies to create inclusive and equitable workplaces. Through the analysis of real-world case studies, students will evaluate both organisational successes and failures in achieving inclusive practices, with an emphasis on international perspectives and cultural competence.
Teams in Organisation
This module explores the theories and practices surrounding team development, leadership, and performance within modern organisations. Students will examine the behavioural dynamics that affect teams at different stages of development and understand how effective teamwork contributes to organisational success. Through case studies, practical workshops, and group activities, learners will develop skills to build, manage and evaluate teams in both traditional and contemporary work environments. Emphasis is also placed on virtual collaboration, cross-cultural dynamics, and emotional intelligence in team contexts.
Business Research Methods
This module provides an essential foundation for academic and professional research. It introduces key principles, methods, and tools necessary to conduct rigorous, ethical, and impactful research. Emphasis is placed on problem identification, research design, literature review, data collection techniques, analysis strategies, and proposal development. Student must achieve an overall passing grade of 40%. If students fail to achieve an overall passing grade of 40%, students will be permitted one retake attempt in each failed assessment and failure of this retake will require students to re-module the failed module(s) again in full prior to additional retake attempt.
Graduation and Awards
Students must complete and pass all required modules in this course to receive a Higher Diplomain Business Studies certification.
Students who are for any reason unable to complete the Higher Diploma and who have successfully passed a minimum of 8 modules are eligible for an Exit Award of a Diploma in Business Studies.

Minimum Academic Requirement:
- Two passes in GCE A Level Examinations, or
- International Baccalaureate (24 points)
- Local Polytechnic Diploma in any field
- Achieved a grade C6 or better in English language O level, or
- Pass in English Language in Year 10 High School qualification or equivalent
- IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 550
- Completed LSBF Preparatory course in English Upper Intermediate Level
