Finding a Second Home: Milena’s Journey at LSBF Singapore Campus

What started as a spark of curiosity turned into a life-changing adventure. Milena Odaeva shares how Singapore became her second home and how LSBF Singapore Campus empowered her to grow, explore and become the best version of herself.

1. What made you decide to study in Singapore—and what convinced you that LSBF Singapore Campus was the right choice?

My first connection to LSBF began six years ago, when a close friend chose LSBF Singapore for his undergraduate studies. His experience sparked my curiosity, and during my final year of high school, I visited Singapore to see it for myself. The moment I arrived, I felt an instant connection. I fell in love with the city, its people, and its vibrant way of life.

During that trip, I also visited the LSBF campus, and I could immediately picture myself studying there. Singapore’s strong global reputation, multicultural community, and safe, welcoming atmosphere made it the perfect place to pursue my higher education, with LSBF naturally becoming my first choice.

2. How did living in Singapore and studying at LSBF Singapore Campus change you?

Moving to Singapore was a turning point in my life. I grew into someone more independent, confident and open-minded. I learned how to manage life on my own and take responsibility for my choices.

Also, LSBF’s multicultural environment played a huge role in shaping who I am today. I’ve learnt to adore and embrace new people and new experiences, which have helped me build cultural intelligence, and I know this will help me both professionally and personally.

3. What do you love most about life in Singapore?

The craziest thing about Singapore is that this country never stops surprising you!  Even after years of living here, there is always something new to discover. And although it’s known as one of the world’s most expensive cities, there are countless budget-friendly experiences for students if you know where to look.

During my first year, I spent hours exploring the city on foot. This is how I found many hidden gems. One of my top places is MacRitchie Reservoir because I really enjoy trekking. It became my space to reset and reconnect with nature—beautiful views, peaceful trails, and even friendly monkeys always made my day better.

Another experience I fell in love with is dragon boating. It’s physically tough but incredibly rewarding, and it gave me a connection to the cultural and sporting community here. The teamwork, adrenaline and friendships built on the water are unforgettable, and I hope to return to it soon.

4. What programme did you study, and what did you enjoy most about it?

I just completed my Master of Arts in International Business in partnership with the University of Greenwich, after completing my Higher Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management.

What I loved most about my hospitality and business programmes was the community around me. My classmates became real friends who supported me every step of the way. We shared so many memories that the year passed by faster than I expected!

And the lecturers at LSBF were incredible mentors—always ready to guide, listen and support. Their real industry experience made classes engaging and meaningful.

5. What motivated you to become a Student Ambassador?

I have always believed in giving back and staying actively involved in campus life. So, when the Student Ambassador opportunity came up, I applied immediately. Having already spent four years here, I felt confident sharing insights and valuable tips on student life.

I had met students who struggled to settle in, and I wanted to help them feel included and confident. My role became a mission to encourage students to step forward, embrace new experiences and fully enjoy their time at LSBF.

The experience strengthened my communication, content creation and marketing skills, and helped me learn something even more valuable: how to take initiative and make the first move. That’s a skill I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

6. Any plans after completing your programme—career goals, further studies, or travelling?

I’m currently job hunting and hoping to build my career in Singapore.  But at the same time, I’m open to opportunities anywhere in the world. If something exciting appears, I’m ready to embrace it.

7. How do you see your LSBF Singapore Campus experience helping you in your future career?

My experience at LSBF  has made me culturally confident and globally aware. Studying in such a diverse environment has strengthened my cultural intelligence (CQ), something that I know is increasingly important in international business.

LSBF and its lecturers helped me recognise my strengths and understand what I can bring to the professional world. That confidence, combined with a strong academic foundation, is something I will carry into every opportunity that comes next.

Compared to the person I was four years ago, I am more self-aware and self-assured.

8. Your advice to new students joining LSBF Singapore Campus?

Be open to new opportunities and experiences. Because you never know where a new challenge or a simple “hello” might take you.

Yes, studying can be stressful, but don’t spend all your time buried in books. Join activities, attend school events, try new things (such as a student ambassadorship course), and make the most of your time here. It goes by much faster than you think, and the memories you create will stay with you forever.

9. In three words, how would you describe your LSBF Singapore Campus experience—and why?

Growth – Because I became a better version of myself, both professionally and personally.

Community – Supportive lecturers, friendly staff, and classmates who became lifelong friends.

Inspiring – LSBF helped me see the world differently and opened doors to endless opportunities. Speak to our education consultant today to explore programmes that fit your career goals and support your professional growth.
