Between May 2023 and April 2024, SkillsFuture Singapore(SSG) surveyed 3500 graduates from 27 Private Education Institutions (PEIs) for its Graduate Employment Survey. The results revealed that 74.8% secured employment within six months of completing their Bachelor’s degree.
Although slightly lower than previous years’ figures, the decline is mainly due to broader economic conditions in the job market. Nevertheless, the employment outlook for graduates who completed their bachelor’s degree in Singapore remains positive.
This clearly highlights the significance of these qualifications, particularly at a time when popular study destinations are becoming less accessible and welcoming.
So, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree worth it in Singapore? Keep reading to discover.
What Makes Singapore A Global Education Hub?
According to reports citing Singapore’s Ministry of Education, the country hosted over 79,000 international students in 2023, making it the top choice for students from China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand.
The reason lies in the Singapore education system, which reflects a long-standing commitment to cultivating skills for the future. Education is aligned with job market demands and relevance.
This balance of quality education and industry alignment is why Singapore is increasingly regarded as a global education hub. Furthermore, several additional factors contribute to the notion that pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Singapore is a commendable decision.
1. Opportunities for Career Growth
Lifelong learning is a fundamental aspect of Singapore’s education system. The government’s SkillsFuture Initiative exemplifies this dedication. The initiative supports Singaporean workers and students in enhancing their skills and preparing for future employment, helping them stay competitive in a globalised economy.
That’s not all. Singapore has established itself as a centre for upskilling for future careers. For example, KPMG Singapore and ACCA have recently launched their first ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) programmes to prepare accountants for the future of finance.
Such initiatives provide students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Singapore with access to work-study pathways, industry immersion, and opportunities to develop skills for future careers.
2. Leading in Digital Innovation
Singapore was ranked the #1 most innovative nation in the latest Global Innovation Scorecard, surpassing over 74 countries. This ranking is based on countries’ political, economic, and social indicators (including well-being and quality of life) that assesses how prepared a nation is to foster technological innovation.
Furthermore, digital innovation is a national strategy for Singapore. Long before AI became a household term, the country launched its National AI Strategy, establishing a solid foundation for artificial intelligence research and development. The country also invests in cybersecurity, quantum technology, and sustainability, ensuring students and the workforce are equipped for what lies ahead.
These investments directly influence education. Whether you’re studying business, technology or accounting and finance, you’ll be engaging with a curriculum based on ongoing trends in innovation.
3. Strategic Location
Singapore’s central position in Southeast Asia makes it easily accessible, especially for students from neighbouring countries such as China or India. This convenience positions Singapore as a practical gateway for students seeking international education and career prospects while remaining connected to home.
Furthermore, Singapore offers an enriching study experience, with English as one of its primary languages, a multicultural environment, and a high standard of living.
It is also worth noting that Singapore is among the safest countries in the world, which enhances its attractiveness as a place to live and study for a bachelor’s degree. According to a Gallup poll, 95% of people feel safe walking alone at night on the streets of Singapore.
4. Thriving Business Ecosystem
Singapore is home to over 4,500 tech start-ups, ranking 4th globally for its startup ecosystem. Local ventures like GetGo and regional giants such as Grab and Carousell showcase the country’s ability to scale ideas into large businesses.
Global giants like Google, Amazon, and Meta operate regional hubs here. Amazon Web Services launched its Asia-Pacific headquarters in 2025, with a US$9 billion cloud infrastructure investment.
Backed by a pro-business environment, this ecosystem continues to attract companies, startups, and talent, creating diverse opportunities for employment and innovation.
