Certificate in Business Studies

The Certificate in Business Studies has been developed by London School of Business and Finance as an initial qualification for students aiming to embarks on a career in one of a wide range ofindustries, and/or for students aiming for a Higher Education qualification in a subject allied to Management.

Programme Aims

The aim of the Certificate in Business Studiesis to give students the best possible preparation to commence a career in one of a wide range ofindustries, and prepare students for further study. Graduates of the course will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic underlying academic concepts and principles associated with the broader discipline of Management.

The Certificate in Business Studies aims to provide students with:

  • The eligibility to progress into the Diploma in Business Studies programme.
  • An understanding of basic theories and concepts of the subject area, and the ability to communicate these accurately to a range of peers.
  • Gain skills that can be used in a wide range of situations and contexts.
Learning Outcomes 

On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:

  • Have a foundation for understanding contemporary business issues;
  • Describe the basic concepts in management;
  • Develop skills to analyse real world business issues;
  • Demonstrate enhanced capability in analytical, diagnostic, investigative and writing skills.
  • Develop a beginning sense of business acumen
  • Enable basic business awareness when managing issues in the real world.
Course Duration

Full Time: 4 Months
Students attend lessons 3 hours per day plus directed/independent study for a period of 4months from Monday to Friday.

Part Time: 6 Months
Students attend 3-hr lessons 2 nights a week for a period of   6 months.

Lectures, Tutorial, Seminars, Workshops,Case study and Exercises , Group work project and presentations, Computer Exercise, Class Discussion

Intake falls in:  January, March ,May , July, September, November 

Part Time: Every 3 months
Intake falls in : January, April,  July, October  

Entry Requirements
  • 17 years old or above
  • Singapore GCE O, N Levels or NITEC; Or
  • Completion of equivalent middle high school qualification (Year 10-11);Or
  • Pass in appropriate Foundation / Certificate programme; Or
  • Mature Entry Route (MER) minimum age of 21 assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Minimum English Language Entry Requirement
  • GCE ‘O’ level D7; Or
  • PCE-Upper Intermediate grade LSBF English language certificate, or the equivalent.

All international students for whom English is not their first language must provide evidence of their linguistic ability by gaining a minimum level of IELTS 5.0/TOEFL 500 or equivalent, prior to receiving an offer for the course.

Modules Synopsis
Communication Skills

The aim of this module is to help students develop their communication skills, and to develop skills that will be useful for future studies. Introduction to Accounting.

Introduction to Accounting

This module introduces students to the fundamental concepts and key techniques of accounting.

Introduction to Management

The aim of this module is to provide students with an introduction to the principles and practices of management.

Introduction to Mathematics and Statistics

This course introduces the basic concept of quantitative approaches to decision making.

Attendance Requirements

International Students: 90%
Local, PR, non-student pass: 75%

Assessment, Graduation and Awards

Assessment Profile
Assignment/Class test: 50%
Final Exam: 50%                                     

Student must achieve an overall passing grade of 40%.  If students fail to achieve an overall passing grade of 40%, students will be permitted one retake attempt in each failed assessment and failure of this retake will require students to re-module the failed module(s) again in full prior to additional retake attempt.

Graduation and Awards

Students must complete and pass all required modules in this course to receive a Certificate in Business Studies certification.
