Advanced Diploma in Logistics & Supply Chain Management

The Advanced Diploma in Logistics & Supply Chain Management has been developed by London School of Business and Finance (LSBF) as a progression route for students aiming for a Higher Education qualification in the subject area, and/or for students aiming for a career in business and management.

Programme Aims

The aim of the Advanced Diploma in Logistics & Supply Chain Management is to provide students with the opportunity to further develop Logistics & Supply Chain Management knowledge based on practical skills gained through successful completion of the LSBF Diploma in Logistics & Supply Chain Management.  Holders of the Advanced Diploma will be able to demonstrate detailed knowledge and critical understanding of the major theories in business and management, and of the way in which those theories have developed.

The Advanced Diploma in Logistics & Supply Chain Management aims to provide students:

  • To develop students’ competence and practical skills in Logistics & Supply Chain Management

  • To lay the foundation for future pathway and continuing professional development.

  • It is a practical business management program with a focus on managing the flow of materials, people and services, to satisfy customer demand.

  • To provide students with up-to-date information on the latest and most effective logistics technology tool.

  • The knowledge and skills that will enable them to follow a career in all areas of Logistics & Supply Chain Managementand a wide range of careers in business and management.

Learning Outcome

At the end of this course, students will:

  • Demonstrate relevant Logistics & Supply Chain Management knowledge and understanding of organisations, the external environment in which they operate and how they are managed.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of international Logistics and Supply Chain Management, including the integration of information and decisions on transportation, inventory, material flow, and resources.
  • Identify the organisation’s strength and industry position and understand the externals factors that may influence that position.
  • Understand the roles of purchasing, materials management and supply management in the realm of logistics and supply chain management.
  • Evaluate the different modes of transportation and the different strategies shippers adopt in global transportation.  Transport logistics is one of the most critical aspects of business logistics to satisfy customer demands.
  • Ability to conduct an applied research leading to a project report by applying the knowledge; skills and perspectives gained.

Course Duration

Full Time course: 8 months
Students attend lessons for a period of 8 months from Monday to Friday

Part Time course: 12 months
Students attend 3-hr lessons 3 nights a week and scheduled weekends for a period of 12 months.

Course Intake

Full-Time: Every 2 Months / Modular
Intake falls in January, March,May, July, September, November 

Part-Time: Every 3 Months / Modular
Intake falls in January, April, July, October  

Entry Requirement

Minimum Age: 19

Local students shall possess one of the following:

  • LSBF Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • Local Polytechnic Diploma in a relevant field
     

International students shall possess one of the following:

  • LSBF Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • Equivalent Local Polytechnic Diploma in a relevant field in respective home countries in English medium
     

AND

Both local and international students MUST fulfil the minimum English language entry requirement of one of the following :

  • Achieved grade C6 or better in English language in GCE O level;
  • Pass in English Language in Year 10 High School qualification or equivalent;
  • IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 550;
  • Completed LSBF Preparatory Course in English Upper Intermediate Level;
     

Students with non-standard entry requirements (e.g. other PEI qualification, lack of equivalent Year 12 in home country, LSBF Diploma in other discipline, etc) will be assessed on a case by case basis subject to approval of the Academic Board.

Module Synopsis

Human Resource Management
This module introduces relevant concepts and theories in the field of Human Resource Management and provides students with the knowledge, understanding and key skills in relation to HRM. It provides an insight into international diversity in HRM, allowing them to compare the role, activities, and institutional frameworks of human resource management in different national contexts.

Operations Management
This module will provide students with a thorough background in the areas of management information systems (MIS) and operations management (OM). The main topics of discussion include the decision processes, information and decision technologies, information strategy, operations management and operations research. The module maintains a good balance between theoretical and practical aspects and encourages students to achieve expertise in both parts.

International Shipping Management
This module introduces students to the process and procedures of transporting freight by sea and air. The coverage also provides students with the necessary knowledge and insights into shipping terms and import export documentation with a focus on international and local contents.

Warehouse Management
This module introduces students to the functions and activities in the warehouse covering receipt, storage and movement of raw materials or finished goods to intermediate storage locations or to final customer in a multi-echelon model of distribution. The objective of warehousing management is to help in optimal cost of timely order fulfilment by managing the resources and inventory economically.

Business Logistics Strategy
This module focuses on identifying the organisation’s strength, industry position and understanding the externals factors that may influence that position. It concerns strategic decisions about choice of products and technologies to meet the needs of customers, establish competitive advantage and create new opportunities for the business.

International Purchasing Management
This module focuses on the roles of purchasing and materials management or supply management in the realm of logistics and supply chain management. Students will have the knowledge and understanding of the acquisition, evaluation and selection of supplier processes and learn how to control quality and implement strategic cost management.

Global Distribution Management
This module introduces the different modes of transportation and the different strategies shippers adopt in global transportation. Transport logistics is one of the most critical aspects of business logistics to satisfy customer demands.

Business Law; OR
This module will provide students with the general knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of business law in Singapore. It covers major topics discussed in business law courses providing clear examples and simplified cases. The module contains many practical points and common clauses when drafting a contract.

Strategic Management
This module introduces the student to the theory and practice of strategic management, and the holistic way in which it draws upon a wide variety of managerial functions in its creation. It will provide students with an understanding of the key concepts, theories and process integral to the strategic management of organisations.

  • STP holders - 90%
  • Non-STP holders - 75%
Assessment and Graduation
  • Assignment/Class test - 50%
  • Final Exam - 50%


Student must achieve an overall passing grade of 40%. If students fail to achieve an overall passing grade of 40%, students will be permitted one retake attempt in each failed assessment and failure of this retake will require students to re-module the failed module(s) again in full prior to additional retake attempt.

Graduation and Awards
Students must complete and pass all required modules in this course to receive a Advanced Diplomain Logistics and Supply Chain Management certification.
