Grooming Students in a Highly Globalised Hospitality Industry

Grooming Students in a Highly Globalised Hospitality Industry
Soe Moe Zon

Soe Moe Zon, a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Hospitality and Tourism Management student from Myanmar, shares about her motivations for taking up theprogramme and her experience thus far.

Why did you choose to pursue a hospitality PGDip, and how has it helped you?

Soe Moe Zon: I specifically chose a PGDip as I believe it can open doors to more opportunities in this highly dynamic and globalised industry.

My four-year goal is to become a general manager in a hotel or restaurant, and I think the PGDip is definitely preparing me for this role.

The programme has groomed me in various areas, such as my decision-making and customer service skills. Most importantly, I’ve learnt that being in the service line is all about valuing our customers.

What challenges have you faced in your studies as an international student?

Soe Moe Zon: In Myanmar, lessons are taught in our native language. This is my first time being taught in English, so it took me a while to fully grasp the lectures. Thankfully, the lecturers here are patient and take the time to help us.

Name some highlights of your LSBF journey so far.

Soe Moe Zon: One of the highlights about studying in LSBF is that we get to interact with peers of different nationalities and cultures. This hones our adaptability and receptiveness, which are essential in a hospitality role.

Another highlight is the opportunity to undergo a six-month internship, which allows us to gain hands-on experiences and build confidence in our competencies.
